History
Planet Voodoo's Virtual Voodoo Temple was created to
support those who are interested in exploring and
serving the Mysteries but do not have access to a temple
or house in their areas. It is available for those who
are individual practitioners, for the initiated and the
uninitiated. It is open to all faiths and to anyone
interested in strengthening their connection to the
Divine.
The Voodoo Temple was established in 2009 by Priestess
Denise Alvarado. It is the only formally established
Spiritual Temple currently existing in the Midwest with
a focus on traditions that comprise New Orleans Voodoo,
including Native American spirituality, Spiritualism,
and southern hoodoo. "Voodoo Mama", as she is also
known, was ordained a reverend in the "Universal
Life Church Monastery" and is a Medicine Woman who
pours the water for the inipi ceremony.
Activities and Schedule
The
Voodoo Temple offers a wide variety of services,
including intuitive tarot readings, weddings, oils and
baths, and rituals involving a number of Voodoo spirits.
The temple also offers a sizable selection of written
material on the origins of Voodoo, hoodoo, and other
esoteric traditions, in addition to personalized potions
of protection like "Ju-Ju" or "Gris-Gris." Most
recently, Priestess Denise has published several books
regarding the closely held teachings of Creole Voodoo
and are available here and at Amazon.com.
Description
Planet Voodoo's Voodoo Temple is based on the teachings of New Orleans Voodoo and indigenous
spirituality. Fundamental to the temple is respect for self and others. A most
important teaching is reverence to ancestors; we honor those who walked before
us, alongside us, and who have yet to walk on this earth.
Voodoo involves a
tremendous commitment to learning how to walk in this world in a harmonious
manner. As you develop relationships with the loas, orishas, saints, angels,
spirits, and
archangels, it is necessary to learn how to serve and petition them
appropriately. Guidance for doing so is provided in each of the altar rooms.
Please note that what is provided are suggestions only and are provided
according to Priestess Denise's interpretation of Spirits of New Orleans and the Divine.
